Feeling refreshed after our night at the hot springs, we headed to a winery for lunch before heading back to Cape Town. I think we managed 8 or 9 wineries in our time in South Africa, which is fairly impressive in a couple of weeks. Alysson stocked up on about 6 bottles to bring home, managing to keep all of them save one intact.
We checked into our studio apartment we had booked for cheaper than a hostel for two nights, staying in the hipster part of Cape Town, in Woodstock. We had made friends with the bartender at Woodstock brewery and he had promised to take us on a bicycle street art tour that afternoon, but alas, his place had been broken into the night before. Woodstock may be full of hipsters, but it’s still got its problems. We used the free time instead to start packing and use some internet that actually worked- a rarity in South Africa it would seem. I was still trying to get money back from airlines, credit cards, ferry and hotel reservations. On top of it all, I went to book a Baz Bus ticket to use when Alysson left, but found my credit card declined.
It turns out it was just a safety precaution, but after examining my bill, there was a charge that I didn’t recognize. Pretty soon this was multiple charges, and I had to cancel the card. I guess my card was read somewhere, as the card was still with me and all the purchases were online so they didn’t need the physical card. Luckily, I was returning back to Cape Town in 10 days, so I had a new card ordered to the hostel I had booked.
After checking out another Cape Town brewery, we headed back to use the Netflix available at our fancy place and drink some of the wine we had bought along the way. A relaxing night was just what we needed after a very full couple of weeks.
We managed a relatively early start the next day, dropping off the rental car en route to Table Mountain, where a gorgeous day awaited us. Not a cloud in sight. We decided to hike it rather than pay the very expensive cable car price, which we managed in about 2.5 hours. We then explored the top for a while, and decided to hike down after seeing the crazy line up to get down. By the time we got down I was completely out of water and each step seemed to take forever. But it was definitely worth it.
Our last night in Cape Town we headed back to Woodstock Brewery and made a night of it in the Woodstock area. Alysson boarded a (few) flights back home while I checked into a new hostel for one night before exploring more of South Africa.
